Collagen is one of the body’s most important components — about 30% of all proteins. It plays a key role in mobile joints, strong bones, healthy muscles, strong ligaments and tendons, smooth skin, shiny strong hair,

and healthy nails. It is a main structural protein in connective tissues and is abundant in blood vessels, intervertebral discs, the blood–brain barrier, the cornea and the intestinal wall.

Collagen consists of three amino acids making up about 50% of its composition: glycine, proline and hydroxyproline. In the human body it plays several key roles:
